As crazy as it sounds, the Philadelphia Flyers should hang on to Wayne Simmonds before Monday’s trade deadline to help the team during their surprise playoff push.

While the Philadelphia Flyers continue to enjoy their thrilling win from Saturday night over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stadium Series, the team faces a tough decision come Monday over whether to trade Wayne Simmonds.

Despite how popular Simmonds has been in the City of Brotherly Love throughout his career, the Flyers do realize that all things come to an end at some point. And with Simmonds currently in the final year of his contract that many consider to be an absolute steal, Philadelphia is considering all options over a potential trade since plenty of teams would love to bring the forward on board.

In professional sports, it’s quite common for teams to move on from popular players in the final year of their contract since it’s better to get something in return before they hit the open market in free agency during the offseason.

Luckily for the Flyers, there are plenty of teams in great position for a playoff spot who would love to bring Simmonds on board before Monday’s deadline to potentially make a deep run once the postseason gets underway.

However, with Philadelphia in position to make a last-second run themselves at a potential spot in the Eastern Conference, the team should strongly consider keeping Simmonds around to give them a better chance of pulling off the unthinkable over these next few weeks.

At the moment, the Flyers currently trail the Carolina Hurricanes by seven points for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 20 games to go, meaning it’s certainly possible to squeeze into one of the final spots.

Whether Simmonds continues to be part of the team’s push, Philadelphia fans will have a better idea soon since the trade deadline is officially less than 24 hours away. But as great as it would seem to get something in return for the star forward after all these years, the Flyers should strongly consider the possibility of hanging on to him with the hope he can continue to make some sort of impact.

Trading Simmonds to a contender may seem like the more favorable option at the moment, but if Philadelphia were to end up keeping him around, this certainly wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world either.
