Nothing is set in stone at the moment, but the latest Philadelphia Phillies rumors involve the discussion of how they may need to top Giancarlo Stanton’s previous deal to land Bryce Harper.

Unfortunately for Philadelphia Phillies fans, Monday was another day consisting of numerous rumors surrounding the possibility of Bryce Harper coming on board, only to end with the star outfielder failing to make an announcement about the team he will play for in 2019.

After talks seemed to be dying down for a couple of weeks, the rumors surrounding Harper joining the Phillies started to heat up again this past weekend, as Philadelphia was reportedly considered the favorites to land the 26-year-old.

Then again, as much as Philadelphia fans want to believe the hype surrounding Harper, most of them seem to be taking the mindset of not believing a single thing until a contract is in place and signed since there are still a handful of teams looking to land him as well.

With that being said, one of the positive factors surrounding the Phillies that came out on Monday is a new report claiming that Harper believes Philadelphia is “close to winning big” with the current group of players, which is exactly what fans want to hear.

Also, if a deal between Harper and the Phillies does end up taking place, it looks like it could top the hefty $325 deal signed by Giancarlo Stanton back in 2014, which sounds insane just to think about.

That’s right, the one thing that sticks out the most in this latest report is the fact that a deal could finally be signed by Harper by the end of the week, which hopefully is good news for the Phillies instead of seeing the outfielder choose another team.

Despite how frustrating it was to watch Philadelphia collapse during the final two months of last season since they were arguably in the hunt for a playoff spot, the good news is this team appears to be in great shape to take a major leap in 2019.

Between some of the younger talent like Aaron Nola continuing to improve with experience along with key moves this offseason consisting of bringing on better talent such as Jean Segura and J.T. Realmuto, it’s easy to understand why some view the Phillies as a team close to winning big.

Of course, with the addition of one of the game’s best power hitters in Harper, this would only put Philadelphia in an even better position to take another major leap as a top contender in the National League not just for 2019, but for years to come.
