Philadelphia Flyers look to make another statement, close out January on hot note
By Dan Parzych
After everything this team has gone through this season, the Philadelphia Flyers could actually end January on a hot note with a win over the Boston Bruins.
To say the Philadelphia Flyers have been on a roller-coaster ride during the 2018-19 season would be a huge understatement after watching all of the ups and downs this team has experienced since things got underway back in the fall.
Between Ron Hextall and Dave Hakstol both getting the boot to the team losing eight games in a row at one point leading up to the All-Star break, it’s easy to understand why the roller-coaster term seems to fit the Flyers best for this season.
With that being said, even though it sounds like a long shot to put Philadelphia in the conversation of emerging as a late playoff contender, the team seems to have turned things around in recent weeks in one of the best ways possible.
It was one thing for the Flyers to enter the All-Star break on a hot note by winning three games in a row along with four of five, but watching them pick right up where they left off this week makes this whole scenario involving a late playoff push more likely to possibly happen.
After kicking this week off on a hot note with an impressive 3-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets, but it was great to see them escape with a 1-0 win over the New York Rangers a few days later.
On Thursday, Philadelphia will take part in their final game in the month of January by traveling further up northeast for what should be another tough battle against the Boston Bruins. Prior to the break, it was the Flyers who were able to hang on for a 4-3 win over the Bruins, but the circumstances will be a little different with this one being in Boston.
With Philadelphia currently sitting two games below .500 at the moment before Thursday’s game, the best approach this team can take at the moment is focus on one game at a time since they clearly still have a long way to go when it comes to getting back into the playoff hunt.
However, as mentioned before, just to see the Flyers entering the game on a five-game winning streak along with winning six of seven says a lot about the effort this team has put into getting back on track.
By recording another win on Thursday over Boston, this will only build to Philadelphia’s confidence heading into February when it comes to having what it takes to make that surprise late playoff push out of nowhere.
