The Philadelphia Flyers were heating up right before the All-Star break by winning four of their last five games.

To say the 2018-19 season has been a roller-coaster ride for the Philadelphia Flyers would be a huge understatement after looking at all of the ups-and-downs this team has been dealing with over the last couple of months.

Between firing both Ron Hextall and Dave Hakstol along with getting the Carter Hart era underway earlier than expected, it’s been a wild ride for the Flyers ever since the season got underway, but at least there’s still hope.

Just the thought of having Philadelphia part of the playoff conversation at this point in the season sounds ridiculous since the team clearly has a long way to go, but the team deserves credit for how great they looked in the days leading up to All-Star Weekend.

Not only have the Flyers won three games in a row with the latest coming on Jan. 19 during a 5-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens, but the team has won four of their last five games before they return to action on Monday by hosting the Winnipeg Jets.

With the team sitting near the bottom of the Metropolitan Division right above the New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia has quite the work cut out for them over the next few months if this team is going to have any chance of making a surprise playoff run.

Catching up to that final seed in the Eastern Conference certainly won’t be easy, but the good news for the Flyers is the team simply has nothing to lose at this point.

As bad as it sounds, after watching all the major changes made involving Hextall and Hakstol a few months ago, Philadelphia was assumed to go through rebuilding mode for at least the remainder of this season.

For a team like the Flyers that had lost eight games in a row not too long ago, it’s kind of amazing to see them in this position by winning four of their last five games since they can use all of the confidence they can get at this point.

Philadelphia may be feeling great at the moment with their recent hot streak, but now comes the challenge of making sure this high level of play continues after the weekend. Otherwise, any slim chance of the Flyers making a surprise playoff run during the final stretch can quickly go out the window.
