Philadelphia Eagles: 7-Round 2019 mock draft following Divisional Round defeat
By Dan Parzych
Round 2: Florida CB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson
Despite playing well at times towards the end of the regular season, the Eagles made it clear on numerous occasions that cornerback wasn’t always their strongest position. And even though young players like Sidney Jones and Avonte Maddox have shown plenty of potential for the future, Philadelphia still needs help at cornerback.
Could Chauncey Gardner-Johnson help fill that need? The Florida product has received high praise for his tackling abilities along with being able to stop the run, so adding Gardner-Johnson to the mix could work wonders for the Eagles.
In what shouldn’t come as a surprise at all, Gardner-Johnson is coming off his best season with the Gators by recording nine tackles for a loss and three sacks. Not to mention, two of his four interceptions ended up being returned for touchdowns.
Along with some of Philadelphia’s younger cornerbacks, just imagine the new level of potential if Gardner-Johnson were to end up joining Jim Schwartz‘s defense. Cornerback was certainly a major issue at times over the course of this past season, but a few key adjustments, whether it happens to be the draft or free agency, could certainly help turn things around for 2019 along with taking some of the pressure off Schwartz.
