1. Philadelphia has money to spend

Back in September, Harper reportedly turned down a 10-year, $300 million offer from the Nationals, which actually made sense at the time, despite some baseball fans finding it crazy to think how any player could turn down that kind of money.

Rightfully so, Harper knew that it would have been foolish on his end to jump the gun by agreeing to this kind of deal when a few months from then, he would most likely receive better offers from other teams.

Not to mention, Harper could use this deal as leverage for negotiations since every team expressing interest would know what they were competing with contract wise.

Even before the 2018 season got underway, Philadelphia knew this current offseason had the potential to work wonders since they were fortunate enough to have a ton of salary cap space.

Since a majority of teams across baseball can’t afford to offer Harper the kind of insane contract he’s been looking for, this gave the Phillies a huge advantage since their competition to signing him would be narrowed down to a few teams.

Does this mean Philadelphia would be willing to go above the offer Washington made back in September? Most likely, the Phillies would never be holding this upcoming meeting with Harper if they weren’t willing to provide a better offer, meaning fans will be excited to see how this all plays out.
