2. Phillies showed a ton of potential in 2018
Watching the Phillies go another season finishing below .500 after going 80-82 in 2018 was beyond frustrating for numerous reasons, but nothing stood out more than seeing how the team was actually in the hunt for the NL East title still at the beginning of August.
One can only imagine how different things would have been come playoff time if Philadelphia didn’t collapse during those final two months of the regular season, but also shows this team was still a work in progress.
From a power hitter on the rise in Rhys Hoskins to Aaron Nola continuing to establish a reputation for emerging as one of the top pitchers in the league, the Phillies had plenty of great talent to work with in 2018.
But as mentioned before, watching them struggle the way they did during August and September made it clear that Philadelphia still had a long way to go before joining the category of being a true contender.
That’s where someone like Harper could come into play when seeing how he’s the kind of player that would provide an immediate boost to the potential surrounding the Phillies in numerous ways, whether it happens to be at the plate or simply in the outfield.
