3. Key additions by Phillies so far

Heading into the offseason, Philadelphia was expected to be one of numerous teams taking an aggressive approach, mainly because they have the money to spend.

By now, Phillies fans were hopeful that Harper or even Manny Machado would have agreed to join the team, but at least Philadelphia has come through with a few other key additions, whether it was through trades or free agency.

Right off the bat, acquiring Jean Segura should be viewed as one of the most underrated moves of the offseason for any team not just from what he brings to the plate as a hitter, but mainly his defensive skills.

It’s no secret just how much a team like the Phillies could use defensive skills like Segura’s for the infield, and the team has plenty of reasons to be excited to see the immediate impact he’s expected to make in 2019.

Along with Segura, Philadelphia was also able to land Andrew McCutchen in free agency, and while some baseball fans questioned the move, the veteran can still bring plenty to the table. From Harper’s perspective, these moves alone show the effort the Phillies have been making to improve for 2019, and deserve to be recognized by the free agent outfielder.
