Philadelphia Eagles: Carson Wentz

Do the Philadelphia Eagles have a quarterback controversy? Is Carson Wentz the guy, or is Nick Foles the answer? Foles came in and won a Super Bowl last year and led the Eagles back to the playoffs in 2018. But when 2019 begins, Wentz will be the Eagles starting quarterback.

Doug Pederson has made it clear that Wentz is his guy and no matter what happens, Wentz will be the Eagles starting quarterback on opening day of the 2019 season. The Eagles invested too much into Wentz, and he is too talented to move on from.

When healthy, everyone saw what Wentz is capable of. In 2017, Wentz went 11-2 and was the league MVP before he got hurt. Foles has looked good in his limited action, but the belief is that Wentz is more trustworthy over a full season than Foles.

Looking ahead, the Eagles will likely pick up Wentz’s fifth-year option this offseason, so he is not going into 2019 on the last year of his deal. The Eagles may look to extend Wentz this offseason, but it is possible they will wait to see how 2019 goes before talking an extension.

So after the 2018 season is over, the Wentz vs. Foles discussion will come to an end. Wentz will be the Eagles starting quarterback next season and should look a lot better since he will be healthy. What about Foles? He will likely move on from Philadelphia. Where will he go?
