Predicting each NFL teams starting quarterback on opening day 2019
By Jake Starr
Washington Redskins: Joe Flacco
Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith suffered a gruesome leg injury this past season that leaves his NFL future in doubt. Odds are, Smith will not be the Redskins quarterback when the 2019 season begins, and he may never play again.
Smith signed a four-year extension with Washington prior to last season, which now leaves the Redskins in a very bad position. With Smith’s future uncertain, Washington needs to go out and address their quarterback position this offseason, again.
Joe Flacco is on his way out of Baltimore this offseason, but it is likely the Ravens will try to trade him before releasing him. If cut, Baltimore has to eat up $16 million in dead cap, a huge cost. A team that should be in the running for Flacco is the Redskins.
Washington doesn’t have an answer at quarterback going into 2019, and Flacco would give them more stability than any of their other options. Flacco gives Washington an experienced veteran who has won a Super Bowl in his career.
Flacco is no superstar by any means, but if he is put in the right situation, then he could succeed. With a strong defense and some complementary pieces on offense, it would seem like a logical move for Flacco to take the short move from Baltimore to Washington D.C.
