Carolina Panthers: Tyrod Taylor

The Carolina Panthers face a lot of uncertainty surrounding quarterback Cam Newton heading into 2019. There are a lot of questions surrounding Newton’s shoulder and his long-term health. Newton’s shoulder looked so bad that he was shut down for the last two games of the 2018 season.

No one really knows what to expect with Newton moving forward and there is always the chance that he is healthy and able to play when the 2019 season kicks off, but that seems unlikely. The best thing for Newton is to rest his shoulder and let it heal, even if that means missing a lot of 2019.

Luck had a very similar injury to what Newton has, and he ended up missing the entire 2017 season and that finally got him right. Could Newton do the same? He and the Panthers at least should not rule it out.

If Newton is not good to go for the 2019 season, then who could the Panthers tab as their starter? Texas A&M product Kyle Allen looked good in a Week 17 win over the Saints, granted it came against their backups. Carolina should target a veteran quarterback to bridge the gap until Newton returns.

A veteran quarterback that the Panthers could target is former Browns quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Taylor led the Bills to the playoffs in 2017 and should be a viable option to get a cheap one-year deal from the Panthers.
