Despite the recent rumors surrounding DeSean Jackson possibly coming back to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019, the move seems unnecessary for the defending champions.

With the NFL playoffs getting underway later this week, rumors surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles and every other team are already beginning to heat up, one of which happens to include a potential reunion involving DeSean Jackson.

As Eagles fans remember well, the release of Jackson prior to the 2014 season during the Chip Kelly era came as a huge shock at the time, especially when seeing the kind of 2013 campaign the speedster had put together.

Whatever Kelly’s excuse was at the time, Philadelphia losing a star wideout coming off a 2013 season in which he caught 82 passes for 1,332 yards with nine touchdowns was quite a shock at the time.

Not to mention, all three categories were career highs for Jackson, once again showing that whatever Kelly was thinking, it obviously didn’t settle well in the long run when seeing how things played out with the former Eagles head coach.

Five years later, Jackson is coming off his second season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and even though he’s been dealing with an Achilles injury as of late to prevent him from playing, there’s already been talk about the possibility of him wanting out for 2019.

In fact, John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia reported a few days ago about how there’s interest on Jackson’s end when it comes to a return to the City of Brotherly Love, which makes sense since that’s where he spent the first six years of his career.

From Tampa Bay’s perspective, the team could easily save some money, and be just fine without Jackson if they were to decide to move on from the veteran when looking at some of the younger talent beyond Mike Evans they have to work with.

But when it comes to the Eagles, as great as it would be to see Jackson return for a second stint with the team, would it really be necessary?

Sure, there have been plenty of exciting moments involving Jackson over the years, and fans certainly loved watching him during his prime years from 2008-13, but unfortunately this seems like one of those situations in which they would be just fine without him.

Between the Eagles keeping Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor around along with the potential surrounding other younger receivers like Mack Hollins, bringing Jackson back into the picture just seems like it would result in a waste of time.

Not to mention, when seeing the kind of money Jackson would most likely be requesting, this seems like one of those situations in which Philadelphia should use that kind of money elsewhere.

Then again, these are all simply rumors for now, and could end up being meaningless if Jackson does end up returning for a third season with the Buccaneers. However, for the sake of the rumors that have been emerging in recent days, here’s to hoping the Eagles just make it simply by avoiding Jackson at all costs.
