Nick Foles goes MVP mode in Week 16 to keep playoff hopes alive for Philadelphia Eagles
By Dan Parzych
Nick Foles came up big when the Philadelphia Eagles needed him the most in Week 16 to keep their playoff hopes alive.
With desperation mode coming into play for the Philadelphia Eagles just to keep their playoff hopes alive, Nick Foles knew it would most likely fall on his shoulders if the defending champions were going to have any shot at taking down the Houston Texans.
Seeing how the Texans were in position to remain in the driver’s seat for a first-round bye along with the fact they’ve been one of the hottest teams since September, the Eagles knew their Week 16 matchup was going to be far from easy.
Turns out, it took Philadelphia until the final seconds to earn the hard-fought win when seeing how Jake Elliott converted the game-winning 35-yard field goal to secure the 32-30 victory. And while Elliott deserves all of the credit for coming through with this kick when needed the most, none of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for Foles.
Facing a top defense in the Texans, it was unbelievable to see Foles complete 35 of 49 passes for 471 yards to go along with four touchdowns, showing signs of greatness once again from last season in which he helped Philadelphia earn their first Super Bowl title in franchise history.
When looking at all of the circumstances working against Foles after all of the injuries the Eagles have been dealing with, some fans already wrote off the defending champions before facing the Los Angeles Rams since they seemed like absolute long shots.
It’s tough to explain why Foles seems to play some of his best football, and look like a MVP when Philadelphia seems to be major underdogs, but they’re certainly not upset about it when seeing how he’s now pulled off two impressive wins in a row over the Rams and Texans.
Even though the NFC East has already been won by the Dallas Cowboys, the Eagles won’t have a problem at all if they are forced to settle for a Wild Card spot since all that matters is this would mean they’re in.
Of course, Philadelphia will need some help from the Chicago Bears defeating the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17 since this needs to happen as well along with defeating the Washington Redskins. But when seeing how amazing Foles has looked along with the Bears still in the mix for the No. 2 seed, why shouldn’t Eagles fans feel confident about their chances at the moment?
Either way, even if Philadelphia comes up short in their goal to return to the postseason, at least Foles has proven once again after Week 16 that he’s not going to let the Eagles go down easy without a fight.
