Carter Hart helped the Philadelphia Flyers earn a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday night during his NHL debut.

Between the firing of Ron Hextall back in November to parting ways with Dave Hakstol this week, the Philadelphia Flyers saw Tuesday as the perfect opportunity for Carter Hart to make his NHL debut in net.

When seeing how the Flyers were sitting on the bottom of the Eastern Conference prior to Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings, the team knew they had nothing to lose calling Hart up from their Lehigh Valley affiliate.

So how did things go for Hart and Philadelphia on Tuesday? Well, Hart obviously would have preferred to avoid giving up the two goals that he did, but when seeing how he also managed to record 20 saves while earning the 3-2 win during his debut, this is what really matters the most.

Philadelphia had high expectations for Hart back in 2016 when they made the decision to use a second-round pick on the goalie during the draft, and it’s crazy to think he was able to accomplish what he did on Tuesday at just 20-years-old.

One performance simply won’t define the kind of career Hart will have in the NHL since he still has a long way to go when it comes to proving himself, but at least from his perspective, he no longer has to worry about the pressure that comes with trying to earn that first win in the big leagues.

To say this season has been a disaster so far for the Flyers would be a huge understatement when looking at how much disappointment fans have been forced to deal with, although the good news is there’s still time to get back on track.

Hart’s first win obviously isn’t going to solve all of Philadelphia’s problems when looking at what this team has been dealing with over the last two months, but at least it brings some much-needed excitement to the picture.

Without questions, the constant losses by the Flyers this season have been painful to deal with, but maybe if Hart can continue to help the team earn more wins as a result of impressive goaltending, it will certainly help ease the pain.

Up next, Philadelphia hopes to keep the momentum going on Thursday with the Nashville Predators coming to town. With all due respect to the Red Wings, the Predators will be a much tougher challenge for Hart, and if he happens to pull off another win, it will only make Flyers fans that much more excited.
