Nick Foles helped the Philadelphia Eagles pull off the unthinkable by upsetting the Los Angeles Rams on the road during their first game without Carson Wentz.

Just like the end of last season after Carson Wentz went down with a season-ending injury, the Philadelphia Eagles were heavy underdogs heading into Sunday’s contest with the Los Angeles Rams.

As bad as it sounds, the Rams had every reason in the world to be heavy favorites in this one, whether it was Nick Foles playing for the first time since September or simply the fact that the Eagles were dealing with numerous key injuries on both sides of the football.

With that being said, Philadelphia deserves all of the credit in the world for showing Los Angeles they are the last team to take lightly after the defending champions pulled off the big 30-23 upset.

All of a sudden, the Eagles are not only back in the conversation for a potential playoff spot in the NFC, but also will most likely continue to hear about how Foles deserves to be the quarterback over Wentz in the future.

Thanks to pulling off the unimaginable last season by leading Philadelphia on an epic Super Bowl run, there was never any doubt about Foles being able to lead the offense in Los Angeles. If anything, the main factor that seemed to be working against Foles and the Eagles was all of the key injuries this team has been dealing with over the last few months.

Right from the start of Sunday’s game, Foles looked extremely comfortable under center for Philadelphia, as the Super Bowl MVP continues to play some of his best football in the most meaningful games.

Foles may not have thrown a single touchdown pass in the win, but it was the way he took advantage of having Alshon Jeffery (eight catches for 160 yards) in the passing game along with putting Philadelphia in great position to score on numerous drives.

This was only one game, and the Eagles know just the thought of the conversation discussing how Foles should be the quarterback over Wentz sounds ridiculous, but also they won’t be able to escape it, no matter how hard they try.

Keep in mind there were times throughout the year in which some fans were so frustrated with Wentz, they believed he should be benched in favor of Foles.

And when hearing the news last week in regards to Wentz’s back injury bothering him longer than most people knew about, those same fans can’t help but wonder if the Eagles would be in much better shape for the playoff race had Foles been inserted in the lineup earlier on.

By taking down one of the best teams the NFC has to offer in Los Angeles, Foles helped Philadelphia make a huge statement when it comes to deserving to still be in the playoff conversation.

So no matter how much Doug Pederson and the Eagles want to avoid any talk about how Foles deserves to be the starter over Wentz even when he’s healthy again, this is one of those topics nobody will be able to avoid for the remainder of the week.
