With Carson Wentz officially ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, the Philadelphia Eagles will rely on Nick Foles under center.

Even though the Philadelphia Eagles are heavy underdogs heading into Sunday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, all eyes will be on Nick Foles to see if last year’s Super Bowl MVP has what it takes to pull off one of his magical performances.

The circumstances are much different for the Eagles this time around when it comes to the NFC playoff picture since the defending champions are on the outside looking in at the moment, but Doug Pederson knows the best approach to take is focus one game at a time.

Without question, Foles knows the Rams are going to be quite the challenge for him when taking numerous factors into consideration, whether it’s the constant pressure by Aaron Donald or simply the fact that the Eagles are dealing with numerous injuries.

However, when looking back at all of the talk from the offseason in which Foles was quite the popular topic of discussion in trade talks, this is a good reminder that Week 15 is the exact reason why Philadelphia kept him around to backup Carson Wentz.

Football fans can say whatever they want about Wentz from this season, but at the end of the day, the Eagles had a dream scenario at their quarterback position, and arguably still do.

Philadelphia knew that Foles easily could have been traded in the offseason to a team in need of help at the quarterback position, and possibly earned a first or second-round pick in return.

But with Wentz coming off a serious knee injury that drew plenty of uncertainty, the Eagles knew it would be risky to trade away Foles if they were ever in a position in which they needed to count on a reliable backup.

That’s where Week 15 comes into play since the good news is despite Philadelphia entering the game as heavy underdogs, Foles will give them a much better chance of pulling off the upset since he knows a thing or two about dealing with this kind of pressure.

Any quarterback that can lead a team like the Eagles to their first Super Bowl title in franchise history when they were underdogs in every postseason game along the way should have little trouble dealing with the kind of pressure Foles will see come Sunday night.

At the end of the day, this scenario was the exact reason Philadelphia kept Foles around since it looks like Wentz won’t be able to go the rest of the way. And who knows, maybe Foles will figure out a way to put together similar magic to last season in which he helped the Eagles shock the world with a major upset over the Rams, whether it sounds likely or not.
