This whole situation with Carson Wentz and his back injury seems to take a different turn for the Philadelphia Eagles each day.

This week, Philadelphia Eagles fans seemed to be caught off guard when the news broke that Carson Wentz would most likely miss Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams due to back injury.

When seeing what Nick Foles was able to accomplish last year in helping the team win their first Super Bowl title in franchise history, Eagles fans should feel comfortable with the backup quarterback if needed for the rest of the way, even if Philadelphia is a long shot at the playoffs.

However, no matter how confident fans feel about Foles most likely filling in for the rest of the way, it still doesn’t take away from the frustration about this surprise injury to Wentz, especially if it’s been going on for quite some time.

On Wednesday, the news related to Wentz was mostly described as a back injury with a lot of uncertainty.

Turns out, Wentz has a fractured vertebrae in his back, which in a way is kind of good news since the injury can heal with rest as opposed to having surgery, which Philadelphia seemed nervous about at first.

Still, the one factor that stands out the most is how CT scans were conducted throughout the season, meaning Wentz has been dealing with back issues for quite some time.

If this in fact was the case, there are some Philadelphia fans wondering why Wentz was even playing to begin with, and if Foles had taken over the starting job sooner, would their situation be much different?

For obvious reasons, it’s unfair to put all of the blame on Wentz for some of the problems the Eagles have been dealing with this season since there are issues beyond quarterback. But when looking at some of the questionable performance by Wentz during certain key losses, it’s tough not to wonder how different things may have been if Foles were playing instead.

Best case scenario when looking at where Philadelphia stands this late in the season, the best thing Wentz can do is just sit out these final games, and receive the necessary rest to be ready to go for 2019.

Some Eagles fans have pointed out the concerns surrounding Wentz being injury prone when looking at all of the incidents dating back to his college days, but all of those claims are simply ridiculous.

At the end of the day, Wentz is the best option for this team as the franchise quarterback, and since focusing on the future is what’s most important for the Eagles, resting him seems like the best option for the rest of 2018.
