3 reactions to Philadelphia Phillies signing Andrew McCutchen

What this could mean for other Phillies
Going into the offseason, there were a lot of players that the Phillies were likely to float around on the trade market. Without question, adding both Segura and McCutchen ups the necessity for the Phillies to move some players in similar positions.
Obviously, Hoskins is likely moving back to first, but the Phillies still have a logjam of sorts in the outfield. Odubel Herrera, Roman Quinn, Nick Williams, and Aaron Altherr are in the mix for two, or even only one outfield spot, depending on what the Phillies do the remainder of the offseason.
Cesar Hernandez and Maikel Franco are two more names that have been floated around in trade rumors, so the Phillies have plenty of pieces that they can move. They have been rumored to be in the market for a left-handed pitcher like Madison Bumgarner and Marlins catcher JT Realmuto.
As they did with Segura, the Phillies are obviously trying to make a splash in the trade market as well as in free agency and they have the pieces to make a big trade. Adding McCutchen makes more of those outfielders expendable in a deal.
With still much of the offseason left to go and a lot of moves still on the horizon, nobody on the Phillies roster is safe and the lineup we see on Opening Day next season could be vastly different from what we saw at the end of 2018, and McCutchen on board makes that even more clear.
