After having his third-year option declined six weeks ago, what does the future hold for ascending forward Furkan Korkmaz and the Philadelphia 76ers?

The Philadelphia 76ers are inching towards a Furkan Korkmaz problem.

Now granted, it’s a good problem to have, as the 21-year-old Turkish forward has been playing some A-plus basketball whenever he’s been afforded an opportunity to see the court but after having his third-year option declined back in October, his future with the team is incredibly fluid.

If he keeps playing as well as he did against the Detroit Pistons, scoring 18 points on 12 shots while knocking down 4-7 from downtown, Elton Brand is going to have to think long and hard about extending Korkmaz past this season, but that could get a bit pricey based on Furkie’s potential alone.

Is a 21-year-old former first round pick worth a multi-year, multi-million dollar deal when he’s only averaging nine minutes of action a night?

By that extension, if Korkmaz does develop a robust market for himself down the stretch to the point where he could become a contested commodity in free agency next summer, why not flip him to a team like the Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks, or Phoenix Suns for a veteran roleplayer destined for a late-season buyout? The Sixers received a pivotal bump in energy and efficiency when they added Ersan Ilyasova and Marco Belinelli after the 2018 trade deadline, so why not attempt to do the same thing in 2019?

So, with his future with the team very much up in the air, let’s take a look at Furkcan Korkmaz’s potential 2019 scenarios and attempt to predict his future with the Philadelphia 76ers.
