Philadelphia Phillies adding Jean Segura could help bring in additional talent

With all signs pointing to the deal going through for the Philadelphia Phillies to land Jean Segura from the Seattle Mariners, it will be interesting to see what other players this move helps attract.
A few days ago, there were talks heating up about the possibility of the Philadelphia Phillies acquiring Jean Segura from the Seattle Mariners.
For reasons that are difficult to explain, the Mariners seem to be willing to move on from numerous key players this offseason, whether it happens to be Segura or Robinson Cano, who will coincidentally be joining the NL East as well after a trade to the New York Mets.
The debate is out there when it comes to whether Cano will be worth it for the Mets, but at least when it comes to the Phillies, the addition of Segura should provide an immediate boost to the infield.

Along with his defensive skills, Segura has proven to be a valuable hitter as well, so if Philadelphia fans weren’t excited about the shortstop before, they better get on board the hype train since this could turn out to be one of the most underrated moves of the offseason.

Last 3 seasons, Jean Segura has 301 hits up the middle, 5 more than Jose Altuve for the MLB lead among right-handed hitters.

Segura also has 100 opposite-field hits over that span, 6th-most in MLB.
A guy you can almost always trust to hit the ball where it's pitched.
With all due respect to J.P. Crawford since the potential always seemed to be there, the addition of Segura would clearly be an upgrade at the position. And if that wasn’t exciting enough, Philadelphia fans should also love the possibility of Segura when it comes to the other potential players that could join the team in the offseason.
Players like Manny Machado and Bryce Harper have been linked to the Phillies over the last couple of months since they were one of the teams in the best position to be able to afford these kind of big-name players.
Looking back, the 2019 season has been circled on the calendar for quite some time for Philadelphia since they knew the money would be there to spend.
Of course, in order to land a star player like Machado or Harper, as great as it is to see the Phillies having money to spend, they also need to prove they have what it takes to compete for a World Series title.
Segura may not be on the same level as Machado or Harper, but this addition will certainly make it clear to other potential free agents that Philadelphia is taking the necessary approach to be a top contender in 2019.
