Philadelphia Phillies Rumors: Jean Segura becomes another potential trade target

Looks like Jean Segura can be added to the latest list of rumors involving players the Philadelphia Phillies may be interested in trading for.
Over the last week or so, it seems like the Philadelphia Phillies have been linked to just about every player potentially available through a trade or free agency, with one of the latest being Jean Segura.
After finishing below .500 yet again despite being in great position at the beginning of August, the Phillies unfortunately fell apart during the final two months of the 2018 season.
Without question, those final two months made it pretty clear that Philadelphia was still an inexperienced team, but when looking at all of the money to spend heading into the 2019 season, this was also a team expected to go big in the offseason.

Believe it or not, the Phillies seem like legitimate contenders to even land a potential big-name free agent like Bryce Harper or Manny Machado at some point, although it seems like the team may even have some other key players before any of that has a chance of happening.
That’s where Segura comes into play, as talk is beginning to heat up surrounding the shortstop ending up with a different team this offseason since the Seattle Mariners appear to be going through rebuilding mode.
As for what this would mean on potential other free agents, well there’s no reason for Phillies fans to feel concerned.

Obviously, a situation like this would result in Philadelphia having some work to do when it comes to figuring things out. But when seeing how it would be well worth it in the overall picture, the Phillies will worry about this situation if it actually happens.
Even if Philadelphia only ended up with Segura while missing out on Machado, this would still be viewed as an upgrade at the shortstop position when looking at his ability as both an infielder and hitter.
Nothing is official since the Phillies aren’t the only team expressing interest in the shortstop, but just being part of the conversation continues to show the aggressiveness behind this team’s offseason approach.

With a few key additions, whether Segura is involved or not, Philadelphia should be in great position to contend for the 2019 season. And who knows, maybe once the Phillies figure out whether Segura will be part of the team for 2019, they can focus most of their attention on Machado or Harper.
