NFL Power Rankings: Philadelphia Eagles keep hope alive in Week 13
31. San Francisco 49ers
At this point, it’s almost unfair that the San Francisco 49ers have to play the final five games of the 2018 NFL season.
After being one of the dark horse Super Bowl contenders prior to the start of the season thanks to the extension of Jimmy Garoppolo, Kyle Shanahan‘s team’s hopes were prematurely dashed by his untimely ACL injury back in September.
Iced out of contention by Week 3, the 49ers lost six straight before surprising the football world with a 34-3 win over the Oakland Raiders in the ‘fight for the worst’ back in Week 10.
But then the team lost to the New York Giants in Week 11, and the losing returned to the City by the Bay.
Fast forward one week into the future, and that streak is up to two following a blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in a game where surprise fan favorite QB Nick Mullens was decimated behind the line of scrimmage by a Bucs’ squad that’s not exactly known for their ability to rush the passer.
Now granted, this team is going to keep losing over, and over again, but still, it’s tough to watch such a promising squad get blown out be horrible teams like the Raiders, Giants, and Cardinals week-in and week-out.
Get well soon Jimmy G; your team desperately needs you.
