13. Washington Redskins

Losing Alex Smith to the season with a broken leg was crushing to see for the Washington Redskins quarterback, and football fans across the country hope the veteran a speedy recovery when looking at the amount of pain he appeared to be in when it happened on Sunday. Only time will tell when it comes to seeing whether Colt McCoy has what it takes to keep the Redskins on top of the NFC East, but it’s not going to be easy.

With Washington falling to the Houston Texans, Jay Gruden’s team now only holds a one-game lead in the division since the Dallas Cowboys pulled off another impressive win off on the road on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. When considering nobody was giving them that much of a chance in the offseason to compete in the division, Washington has been one of the biggest surprises so far in 2018, and one can only imagine how the team in general is feeling after watching Smith go down with that injury after seeing the impact he’s made.

McCoy will certainly be tested heavily right away since the Redskins are on a shorter week with a Thanksgiving meeting on Thursday scheduled against the Cowboys that has all of a sudden become quite the meaningful battle. No matter what it takes, McCoy needs to figure out a way to prove Washington can still compete for the division title, or the team’s confidence will be shot heading into December.
