With reports breaking about Carmelo Anthony and the Houston Rockets parting ways, the Philadelphia 76ers should at least consider the possibility of the 10-time All-Star.

While the Philadelphia 76ers have been quite the popular topic of discussion over the last couple of days after pulling the trigger to land Jimmy Butler from the Minnesota Timberwolves, it looks like Carmelo Anthony and the Houston Rockets aren’t too far behind them.

As basketball fans know, there have been plenty of rumors swirling over how things between Anthony and the Rockets just don’t seem to be working out, speculating that it was only a matter of time before a move was made.

After a one-year stint with the Oklahoma City Thunder that was arguably a bust, Houston was hoping that a fresh start in Houston would help him get back on track. Not to mention, when seeing how the Rockets were already serious contenders to make a run at the NBA Finals, the team was hoping to see Anthony be a missing piece to help them finish ahead of the Golden State Warriors.

Instead, it looks like Houston has given up on the idea of Anthony being one of those missing pieces when seeing how ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Thursday that his time with the Rockets is over.

Sometimes, teams learn the hard way that some players just aren’t a great fit on the team, and when seeing all of the negative chatter surrounding Anthony with the Rockets after just one month, this move seems like the best decision for both parties.

However, just because things failed to work out for Anthony in Houston doesn’t mean he still can’t help another contender looking for another big man, which is where Philadelphia comes in.

The Sixers may be hesitant towards making another key move since they’re still adjusting to the transition with Butler, but also the argument can be made that Anthony could bring some help to the table.

For example, it’s tough to ignore that Anthony did shoot just under 36 percent from 3-point range last season as a member of the Thunder, and could play some valuable minutes off the bench, assuming he would be more willing to take on that role since it’s been an issue before.

Either way, none of this means anything until Houston and Anthony make it official when it comes to no longer working together. But when it does become official, some eyes will be on the Sixers to see if they believe Anthony could become a key factor to them contending in the Eastern Conference, or if the team just decide it’s not even worth considering while letting someone else deal with the forward.

No matter what, it can’t hurt the team to at least consider the possibility of Anthony, right?
