Here are five reasons the Philadelphia 76ers can take down the Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors with Jimmy Butler now part of the picture.
It still doesn’t feel real that Jimmy Butler is now officially a member of the Philadelphia 76ers after the team pulled off the surprise trade over the weekend along with sending Dario Saric and Robert Covington to the Minnesota Timberwolves. And even though Butler didn’t suit up for the team’s impressive win over the Miami Heat on Monday, the star forward is scheduled to make his debut with the Sixers on Wednesday when they take on the Orlando Magic.
Back in the offseason, Brett Brown made it clear that Philadelphia would be “star hunting” to bring in another superstar to put the team in better position to compete in the Eastern Conference against other top contenders such as the Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors. Even though the Sixers failed to come through with landing LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers) or Kawhi Leonard (Raptors), it looks like all of the missed opportunities was well worth it for the Sixers when seeing how it only took until November to make it happen with Butler.
As mentioned before, the whole idea behind acquiring Butler was to put Philadelphia in much better position to finish ahead of other top teams like Toronto and Boston in the Eastern Conference. The Sixers still have plenty of work to do since this new journey with Butler is just the beginning with no guarantees of being successful, but here are five reasons why the trade means Philadelphia is now capable of taking down the Raptors and Celtics in the Eastern Conference.
