23. Jacksonville Jaguars
Has there been a team that’s declined more rapidly the season than the Jacksonville Jaguars?
Maybe the San Francisco 49ers, but they were always a hypothetical playoff team, the Jaguars, on the other hand, looked primed to make their second appearance in as many years.
After slowly building their team the right way, by drafting strong defensive playmakers in addition to a few marquee free agent pickups, the Jaguars looked primed to return to the postseason for the second time in as many years, and establish Sacksonville as a legitimate defensive dynasty for years to come.
But much like the Buffalo Bills, who also made a surprise return to the postseason last season, the Jaguars I have crashed back to Earth thanks to embarrassingly bad performances by recently extended quarterback Blake Bortles.
With a bye week following their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles to try to get things back on track, the Jaguars entered a division about against the Indianapolis Colts with a lot to lose, and in a trend that’s become virtually commonplace, they did just that.
Even return of Leonard Fournette wasn’t enough to get the Jaguars past the front-running Colts, who didn’t score a single point in the second half but still pulled out a 29-26 win.
Unfortunately, it looks like the Jag season is over, and their dynasty is collapsing before it even started.
