The Philadelphia 76ers agreed to a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday to acquire Jimmy Butler.

After losing to the Boston Celtics the way they did last season, the Philadelphia 76ers had their eyes on a big-name player to land in the offseason, which unfortunately didn’t happen with LeBron James or Kawhi Leonard.

However, Jimmy Butler was always an intriguing possibility for the Sixers since it became clear he was unhappy as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves, although nothing ever happened before the start of the 2018-19 season.

Turns out, Philadelphia just needed to be a little extra patient by waiting a few weeks into the regular season before the team finally landed the star player they needed in Butler.

Less than a day after the team’s thrilling overtime win over the Charlotte Hornets, the Sixers shocked the NBA world on Saturday by agreeing to a trade for Butler that involves sending Robert Covington and Dario Saric to the Timberwolves.

As tough as moving on from Covington and Saric may seem to some fans, this deal will be well worth it from an overall perspective when seeing what Butler brings to the table for Philadelphia.

The one thing that was clear in the series against Boston in the playoffs was just how desperate Philadelphia was for another star player to be alongside Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons since they looked completely overmatched at times against the Celtics.

Now that Butler is officially part of the mix, the Sixers seem determined more than ever to make a case when it comes to proving to be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference.

Philadelphia knew that Boston and the Toronto Raptors would be standing in their way of making a serious run to the top seed in the conference, although they certainly appeared to be a work in progress over the first month of the regular season when seeing some of their performances.

There have been plenty of critics that have been unhappy with the way Butler handled things over the months with the Timberwolves, but hopefully the star forward will turn things around now that seems to be part of something great developing in Philadelphia.

Once again, the process seems to be well worth it for the Sixers and their fans.
