After another strong performance Saturday to help the Philadelphia 76ers take down the Detroit Pistons, Joel Embiid is quickly developing into a strong MVP candidate.

The thought of discussing the MVP award at this point in the 2018-19 season sounds ridiculous since it’s only the first week of November, but for Philadelphia 76ers fans, they’re quickly watching Joel Embiid develop into one of the early candidates.

Obviously, a lot could change from now to the summer time since the star center has an unfortunate history of dealing with injuries, but also watching Embiid in recent weeks has brought even more excitement to the Sixers fan base.

When healthy, Embiid has proven to be one of the best centers in the league since he’s proven to be an absolute nightmare for opponents on both offense and defense. Just look at what Embiid was able to accomplish on Saturday against one of the league’s top centers in Andre Drummond and the Detroit Pistons by finishing with 39 points to go along with 17 rebounds, as this is just one of numerous examples over the season he’s putting together.

So far on the overall season, Embiid has looked basically unstoppable when seeing how he’s averaging 29.6 points per game to go along with 12.4 rebounds per game.

Philadelphia as a team still has plenty to work on in the coming weeks since it would be great to see this team finally win a road game, but that could happen as soon as Sunday night when the team takes on the Brooklyn Nets.

When seeing how the Nets have struggled for the most part when it comes to defending centers, Embiid could be in for another monster performance, which will only heat up that MVP talk even more.

As mentioned before, there’s still plenty of basketball remaining in the regular season, and just the thought of having the MVP conversation at this point sounds ridiculous, but also it’s tough not to already begin the discussion when looking at Embiid.

Philadelphia knew they had something special when it comes to Embiid, and when the appropriate time does come, there’s a good chance he will be in the MVP conversation if he continues to play at this pace.

Most importantly, if Embiid continues to play like he has in recent weeks, the Sixers will most likely have little trouble at earning a trip to the playoffs for a second year in a row with hopefully better results this time around.
