NFL Power Rankings, Week 10: Eagles upgrade at receiver during bye week

28. San Francisco 49ers
With C.J. Beathard ruled out for Thursday’s game agains the Oakland Raiders, no one really knew what to expect from Nick Mullens at quarterback, but luckily the third stringer took advantage of the surprise opportunity for the San Francisco 49ers. By tossing three touchdown passes while leading the 49ers to a win over the Raiders, Kyle Shanhana would be foolish to make the switch back to Beathard when looking at the spark Mullens provided on offense.
Sadly, this year quickly became a lost cause for San Francisco when Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a torn ACL, and as bad as it sounds, this team knows deep down that playoffs are basically out of reach. However, just because the 49ers most likely won’t make the playoffs doesn’t mean this team can’t still play the role of being a spoiler along with seeing Mullens find a way to continue making a name for himself, assuming he remains the starter under center.
Luckily for San Francisco, their next two games happen to be quite favorable when seeing how they will face other teams that have been struggling as well in the New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Wins have been hard to come by for the 49ers, but it will be interesting to see how this team looks moving forward, whether Mullens is the quarterback or not.
