NFL Power Rankings Week 9: Philadelphia Eagles make a statement vs JAX
28. San Francisco 49ers
At this point, you kind of have to feel sorry for the San Francisco 49ers.
Initially tagged as a darkhorse playoff contender after the addition of Richard Sherman, the team has suffered injury after injury resulting in a team currently in shambles.
Even Kyle Shanahan can’t turn this offense around.
With Jimmy Garoppolo out for the season after suffering a Week 3 torn ACL against the Kansas City Chiefs, the 49ers have once again had to reinstate C.J. Beathard as their starting quarterback.
Their record since his injury? 0-6.
With the Los Angeles Rams currently strangling the kings of the NFC West, fans in the Bay Area will not have a single even remotely watchable team in their market to root for on the back half of the 2018 NFL season.
However, at least the 49ers, in theory, have hope for the future.
With Jimmy G set to return next season and another draft from Shanahan to load up the team’s roster with his kind of players, the 49ers may once again be a dark horse team worthy of some playoff consideration in 2019, especially if they can secure some value to Pierre Garcon on the trade market.
