NFL Power Rankings Week 9: Philadelphia Eagles make a statement vs JAX
31. Oakland Raiders
Much like the Giants, the Oakland Raiders are a team in disaray, but unlike New York, that appears to be the point.
After trading away, legitimate generational talent Khalil Mack before the season even began for a pair of future first-round picks, the Raiders have since moved on from a number of former high-profile players like Amari Cooper and Obi Melifonwu, with more, like Karl Joseph and maybe even starting quarterback Derek Carr potentially the next players on their way out.
This year’s Raiders squad is simply not a team looking to win now.
With four first-round picks on the books in 2019 alone, Jon Gruden, his 10-year contract, and the Raiders are clearly attempting to play the long game as they transition from Oakland to Las Vegas. While that may result in some truly atrocious football over the next few months, leaving the Bay Area with a whimper, not a roar, it may be what’s best for the team moving forward.
Who knows, maybe Chucky will put it all together, and we’ll be talking about a new Raiders dynasty for years to come as they rule the world in Nevada? I guess anything is possible.
