When the Eagles are on offense

No Ajayi, now what?

The Eagles suffered another crushing blow when they learned on Monday that running back Jay Ajayi will miss the remainder of the season with a torn-ACL. An injury that went unnoticed and even no one sensed it post-game when Ajayi said he wanted to get more carries.

Obviously, the Eagles can look externally for options, but for Thursday, it will likely be Wendell Smallwood carrying much of the load. Corey Clement dressed for Sunday’s game but did not see any action due to his lingering quad injury. Will he be healed enough to contribute on Thursday?

The other options are Darren Sproles and Josh Adams. Sproles has not played since Week one, so what is there to believe that he will be healthy. Adams is inexperienced and only has seven rushes in his career.

Smallwood has looked the best when given the opportunity this year, and unless Clement is 100 percent on Thursday, then expect Smallwood to see the bulk of the carries on Thursday.

Can they protect Wentz?

Honestly speaking, Carson Wentz has not been the issue when playing. While there have been some rust moments so far, Wentz has overall looked pretty good. The issue has been the guys in front of Wentz not giving him enough time to push the ball downfield.

The Eagles made a questionable move prior to last week’s game when they benched Stefen Wisniewski in favor of Isaac Seumalo. Doug Pederson said this move was strictly performance-based, but many believe that is not the case. This move may have been more because Seumalo has earned the starting job, rather than Wisniewski losing it.

Lane Johnson and Jason Peters have to be better as both had very sub par games on Sunday. Johnson has been one of the best tackles in the NFL but has not played up to expectations this season. Peters, in the twilight of his career, will need to return to the level he was at last season before getting injured if he does not want to be replaced.
