Philadelphia 76ers: Landry Shamet signs a shoe deal with Nike

With the 2018 NBA Draft on the horizon, Philadelphia 76ers rookie combo guard Landry Shamet has officially signed a sneaker deal with Nike.

Nike has officially added another member of the Philadelphia 76ers to their expansive portfolio of basketball players.

In a move that should come as little surprise, as he’s worn Nikes in virtually every public appearance with the team and almost exclusively wore PG1s in college at Wichita State, Landry Shamet, the 26th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft has officially signed a deal with the number one basketball sneaker brand in the country according to ESPN’s Nick DePaula.

For those unfamiliar with the NBA’s kick game, virtually every player in the league has some sort of sneaker deal, from the 15th man on the bench to the superstars with their own signature silhouette. Because basketball, maybe more so than any other major sporting event, is incredibly reliant on players finding a specific shoe that fits their specific needs, players often swear by their favorite silhouette, sometimes stockpiling scores of a single shoe from a single year to maintain a consistent level of performance throughout the season.

The Houston Rockets‘ swing forward P.J. Tucker reportedly spent upwards of $200,000 on sneakers last season, a fairly substantial portion of his roughly $8 million a year paycheck. No wonder he’s been described as the NBA’s reigning king of shoes.

So, as we inch closer and closer to the start of the 2018-2019 NBA season, the entirety of the Philadelphia 76ers roster has a sneaker deals. The breakdown? 11 Nike players (Ben Simmons, Furkan Korkmaz, Amir Johnson, Mike Muscala, Landry Shamet, T.J. McConnell, Dario Saric, Robert Covington, and Wilson Chandler), Three Adidas players (Jerryd Bayless, Joel Embiid, and J.J. Redick), and Zhaire Smith as the lone Puma endorsee.

Though it would appear unlikely that Shamet will be the first Philadelphia 76ers player to earn a signature shoe since Jrue Holiday earned a pair of Adidas PE Crazy 8s back in the mid-2010s, who knows, maybe he’ll be Philly’s next breakout star?
