8. Carolina Panthers

Through the first two weeks of the regular season, there were some concerns surrounding the Carolina Panthers when it came to Cam Newton struggling to receive the necessary support in the backfield. As exciting as it is to see Newton bulldoze his way through defenders from time to time for big gains, Ron Rivera would prefer to see his star quarterback avoid the unnecessary hits whenever possible.

After seeing Christian McCaffrey finally come through with a strong outing in Week 3 by rushing for 184 yards on 28 carries, now the pressure comes of continuing to play on this high level during the team’s upcoming battle with the New York Giants. One of the main reasons why Carolina was so high on McCaffrey back in 2017 during the draft was due to his ability to be used in multiple ways, whether it was in the backfield or simply as a receiver.

With Jonathan Stewart out of the picture, the Panthers were hoping to see McCaffrey elevate his game to a whole new level with a heavier workload during his sophomore NFL season, which he has. By continuing to help take some of the pressure off Newton under center with stronger games, McCaffrey will keep Carolina in the best shape possible to compete in the NFC.
