16. Washington Redskins

Thanks to some help from other teams within the division, it’s the Washington Redskins currently sitting on top of the NFC East with a 2-1 record, which nobody really expected back when the 2018 season officially got underway. Once the Redskins realized it would be impossible and way too expensive to bring Kirk Cousins back, the team decided to take a gamble on Alex Smith working with the younger talent of the Redskins’ offense.

Along with Smith, Washington decided to bring Adrian Peterson on board as well after Derrius Guice suffered a torn ACL in the preseason, meaning they would be relying on two key veterans on offense. Through the first month of football, it looks like these key decisions by the Redskins are paying off in a big way, but the true test will be how this team responds following the bye week.

Just because Washington is on top of the division at the moment doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to last, but at least their chances will be high with Smith under center. Throughout his career, the veteran quarterback has proven to be an effective leader with a history of being one of the best game managers, so all eyes will be on Smith heading into Week 5 when the team takes on the New Orleans Saints in a tough Monday night battle.
