Temple Football: 3-keys to a road win at Boston College
By Pete Long
Win the Special Teams battle
Temple has been keen on running trick special teams plays lately, including a fake punt pass for a touchdown at Maryland and a direct snap to secure the win against Tulsa. That kind of wild card play calling makes for an exciting game and can be the kick starter the team needs to get the engine going. They also lead the AAC in kickoff coverage and in the top-five in punt and kick returns.
Boston College allowed touchdowns on a muffed punt and a blocked punt in their win against Wake Forest. They are also at the bottom half of nearly every kicking statistic in the ACC.
Special teams are often overlooked in the pregame predictions of a marquee matchup, yet more times than not it decides the game. Temple has the edge in this category though their field goal kicking has been less than stellar this season thus far. I look for the Owls to pull another trick out of their sleeve or come through with a crucial blocked kick to help lead them to victory.
BC is going to come out firing at all cylinders after their loss last week. Coming off of two big wins to help Temple get back on track, I believe they will match BC’s intensity and win this game convincingly. I’ll be sure to tune in to ESPNU at 12 pm EST and I recommend you do the same!
