After a whirlwind week, new general manager Elton Brand stopped by The Lowe Post to talk all things Philadelphia 76ers with Zach Lowe.

Have you ever wondered how an NBA franchise like the Philadelphia 76ers operates internally?

Well, fear not, because Elton Brand was a guest on this week’s episode of Zach Lowe‘s The Lowe Post podcast, and he divulged some serious insider info about the team’s inner workings from both a player and an executives point of view (Listen to it here).

While it’s not uncommon for Lowe to secure a big-name guest for his weekly show, which can be found pretty much anywhere you find your podcasts, he’s never quite had a guest with Brand’s unique resume, a fact Zach himself mentioned early and often throughout the hour-plus runtime.

More from Philadelphia 76ers

A former first overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft, Brand has filled virtually every possible role across an NBA roster, from an all-star level starter, to bench player, to an on-court mentor, and was even waived with the amnesty clause by the Philadelphia 76ers during his first tenure with the team.

As Lowe eagerly pointed out, no NBA GM has ever been waived with the amnesty clause, a provision that allows a team to release a player who’s far underperformed their massive contract, and no NBA GM will likely ever be waived by a team with the amnesty clause again.

Elton Brand is a front office unicorn.

Though Brand initially retired from basketball back in 2015, a conversation with Sam Hinkie sparked his return to the game as a mentor for young Sixers like Joel Embiid, who he’d frequently face off against one-on-one in practice.

Through this experience, and Hinkie’s short-lived desire to help shepherd Brand into an executive role, Elton quickly found a spot in the Sixers organization post-basketball, initially serving as a consultant before taking over the organization’s G-League affiliate that then-Delaware 87ers.

Fast forward one calendar year and Philly finally has their new general manager.

dark. Next. Philadelphia 76ers have the best starting five in the Eastern Conference.

While I could continue to highlight interesting observations from the duo’s conversation, it would be incredibly laborious to break down every minor detail. If you are a fan of the NBA, the Philadelphia 76ers, or Lowe himself, Elton Brown’s episode of the Lowe Post Podcast is must listen.
