While Landry Shamet may be best known for his shooting prowess, the Philadelphia 76ers new guard also just so happens to make a pretty mean turkey burger

The NBA offseason can be a cruel and  grueling summer for basketball news, especially if you’re a fan of a team like the Philadelphia 76ers who failed to make any major roster shaping moves.

Sure, there was the drama surrounding the draft, when the team traded away everyone’s favorite former Villanova Wildcat Mikal Bridges to the Phoenix Suns for Zhaire Smith and future first, but after striking out on their big three superstar targets, upgrading their bench role players, and unsurprisingly signing J.J. Redick and Amir Johnson to another pair of 1-year deals, most Sixers fans are laying low, patiently waiting for the news cycle to pick back up over the next over the next couple weeks.

And that’s fine.

More from Philadelphia 76ers

Much like for NBA beat writers, the summer is a time for NBA players to sit back, relax, and take it easy. Who knows, maybe spend some time doing something they love?

For Landry Shamet, the 26 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, that apparently includes cooking.

Last week, the former Wichita State combo-guard detailed the process of making some turkey burger sliders on his Instagram story, and as a serious journalist, I knew it was my job, no, my responsibility to replicate his creation and let you all know how it turned out.

Spoiler alert: they’re pretty great.

Though the story has obviously expired since its initial release on September 11th, I painstakingly took a screenshot of the final recipe card, and published it on my own personal Instagram, along with a picture of the finished product.

Looks good, right?

While I may not have replicated the burgers perfectly, as I used mini potato buns, and have no way of knowing what sort of sauce the Kansas City-native opted to place on his own burgers, I have to say the combo of coleslaw and ground turkey works surprisingly well and was not only great on an initial slider, but made excellent leftovers.

Mix one-part turkey burger with two-parts scrambled eggs and a heavy dowsing of hot sauce, my personal favorite being Son of Zombie by Central PA staple Torchbearer, and you have a serious breakfast.

So, while only time will tell what kind of impact Shamet will have on the court as a rookie, and if he can develop into the versatile combo guard Brett Brown‘s offense has been desperately searching for years now to pair with Ben Simmons, it’s clear Landry Shamet knows his way around the kitchen. Who knows, maybe he can demo some more dishes and we can make this a recurring segment here at Section 215? Landry, I’m game if you are.
