2. Los Angeles Rams

Will resting all of the starters in the preseason backfire for Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams in the opener against the Oakland Raiders? The last thing the Rams want to see in a season opener on the road is key players like Jared Goff and Todd Gurley looking rusty as a result of watching every preseason game from the sidelines, but also keep in mind McVay never would have made the move if he didn’t feel confident in his players being ready.

Heading into the first year with McVay as head coach, many expected the Rams to go through at least one year of rebuilding while adjusting to the new system, which was far from the case after the team went from a 4-12 record in 2016 to winning the NFC West last season. Becoming the new team to beat within the division has set a new bar for Los Angeles when it comes to expectations heading into the second year under McVay, but those expectations hit a whole new level this offseason when looking at all of the key additions on both sides of the football.

From signing Ndamukong Suh along with building a new duo at cornerback in Aqib Talib and Marcu Peters on defense to providing Goff with another speedy deep threat in Brandin Cooks, many believe the Rams are built well enough to make a serious run at the Super Bowl. To help live up to the hype, it will be important for Los Angeles to start off the new season on the right note by showing they can take down a talented team on the road in Oakland.
