2018 NFL Power Rankings Week 2: Eagles barely hold off Falcons
By Dan Parzych
3. Philadelphia Eagles
Despite all of their previous success from back in the winter in which they took home the Lombardi Trophy for the first time in franchise history, the Eagles were a team with one of those teams with plenty of questions heading into Week 1, mainly due to injuries. Carson Wentz did everything in his power to try being ready for the opener against Atlanta, but Philadelphia seemed to know that it would be a long shot deep down, and seeing him still waiting to be cleared for contact leading up to Week 1 was a pretty clear sign that he was going to need to wait longer.
In the mean time, the Eagles would be wise to continue rolling with Foles for as long as they can since the last thing the team wants to do is rush Wentz back too soon before he’s fully ready to return to action. And even though Foles didn’t put up the best of numbers when squaring off against the Falcons, keep in mind the results would have been much different with a healthier receiving corps since Alshon Jeffery and Mack Hollins didn’t play.
Also, if Philadelphia wants to make life easier for Foles under center, maybe they should consider using Jay Ajayi and Corey Clement more early on in the games instead of rolling with Darren Sproles. The veteran running back may have come up big at times towards the end of the game, but seeing him rush for 10 yards on five carries was a disappointment in his return.
