With training camp starting in less than a week, the Philadelphia Flyers have a plethora of players to watch and some tough decisions to make.

Don’t look now, but hockey season is almost back! It seems like forever ago since the Philadelphia Flyers were eliminated in the first round of the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs. But after signing James van Riemsdyk and Christian Folin this past offseason, the team will have plenty of decisions to make throughout training camp and preseason to reload before we start it all again this fall.

The Flyers, at least on paper, have the chance to finally field a team with depth throughout their forward lines, defensive pairings, and possibly between the pipes. Between their offseason additions, prospects in the minors, and players already on the roster there will be plenty of competition for open roster spots on the team.

This should give general manager Ron Hextall and head coach Dave Hakstol some fun but challenging decisions before the regular season comes around. With the offseason “losses” of Valtteri Filppula and Brandon Manning, there are some key positions for Hextall and Hakstol to fill.

Though there are the obvious candidates to take on bigger roles like the Scott Laughton‘s, Morgan Frost‘s and Phillippe Myers‘ of the world, the team also has some under-the-radar players on the roster and in the farm system to also choose from. The fourth line also has a spot or two open, and the health of Brian Elliott and Michal Neuvirth is always an unknown.
