With much of the Philadelphia 76ers fanbase pining for Jamal Crawford, it looks like Ben Simmons wouldn’t mind suiting up alongside the 18-year vet.

When the Philadelphia 76ers made a move to bring in a journeyman shooting guard who’d most recently played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, I’m sure it perked up the ears of many a fan in the 215.

However, it, unfortunately, wasn’t the guard many fans had hoped for.

While it will be interesting to see if Anthony Brown can beat the odds and actually earn a spot on the Sixers’ 15-man roster, many fans are still holding out hope that Jamal Crawford, a three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year, will find his way to South Philly.

One of those fans is apparently none other than 2018 NBA Rookie of the Year Ben Simmons.

When asked at a recent NBA 2K release party about Crawford’s fit on the team, Simmons told NBA reporter Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson that “(Crawford) needs to come through”.

Now granted, this may have been nothing more than small talk, as opposed to some masterminded attempt to strongarm the Sixers brass, but it is telling just how much respect Crawford has around the league, even with players who were in elementary school when he made his NBA debut.

While it would be a bit redundant to get into why Crawford would be a great fit with the team at this point, as you can read about that here, it’s a bit surprising that he remains unsigned with the NBA season set to begin in a little over a month.

Maybe he really is just waiting for a call from Brett Brown?

Next. Should the Phoenix Suns trade for T.J. McConnell?. dark

With a number of playoff-bound teams presumably in need of a veteran auxiliary shooter, especially after the Los Angeles Lakers just waived and stretched Luol Deng, it doesn’t seem like Jamal Crawford will be unemployed for much longer, but until he does find a new home, expect the Philadelphia 76ers to continue to be connected with the best free agent shooter left on the market. Ben Simmons obviously approves.
