5 Philadelphia Eagles that need to step up until Alshon Jeffery returns

4. Dallas Goedert
Back in April, there were plenty of fans that assumed tight end was the last position Philadelphia would consider with their first pick of the draft, but the team pulled off a major surprise by going with Dallas Goedert in the second round. And if that wasn’t surprising enough, Eagles fans received an unexpected laugh when hearing the news about how the team traded up for the pick to prevent the Dallas Cowboys from selecting Goedert.
Since Philadelphia already has one of the league’s top pass-catching tight ends in Zach Ertz, the plan for Goedert’s first NFL season seems simple, which is to be an absolute nightmare for opposing defenses trying to contain this new duo at the position. Both players should benefit from one another right away on offense for the Eagles, and while Ertz was already expected to be heavily involved, the absence of Jeffery at the beginning of September could result in Goedert seeing additional passes thrown in his direction.
Philadelphia never would have considered Goedert as early as they did, and pass on going with another player to fill a need at other positions if they didn’t believe he would be a valuable piece to this offense. Based off his potential in the preseason, Goedert is already showing signs of being a great selection for the Eagles.
