Philadelphia Eagles: 5 reasons Nick Foles should start over Carson Wentz in Week 1
By Dan Parzych
4. No guarantee over how Wentz would look
Would it be amazing if Wentz were healthy enough to go for that game against the Falcons? Absolutely. However, from a realistic perspective, Wentz has numerous factors working against him over the next week if he’s going to have any shot of starting under center for opening night when Philadelphia takes on Atlanta.
Not only will there be concern over how Wentz will look since he hasn’t appeared in a meaningful game since last December when he suffered that devastating injury against the Los Angeles Rams, but also the Eagles quarterback hasn’t played a single game in the preseason. So instead of being able to use these last couple of weeks to brush off any sort of rust that he may be experiencing, Wentz finds himself even more at a disadvantage heading into September.
If Wentz were to be cleared over the next few days, and look like the quarterback from last season before the injury, then all would be great for Philadelphia. But realistically, the chances of that happening seem slim at this point, and the Eagles are taking into consideration how Wentz may look when the time comes for him to be ready, whether it’s within the next week or later on down the road.
