Philadelphia Eagles: 5 reasons Nick Foles should start over Carson Wentz in Week 1
By Dan Parzych
Here are five reasons why Doug Pederson and the Philadelphia Eagles should go with Nick Foles as the starter for Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons instead of Carson Wentz.
After months of waiting and being patient, it looks like Philadelphia Eagles fans will finally know which player will be lining up under center at quarterback for the team’s first official game of 2018 against the Atlanta Falcons one week from Thursday. In fact, Doug Pederson announced on Tuesday that he would name his starter the day after the team’s preseason finale against the New York Jets, leaving fans wondering whether it would be Carson Wentz or Nick Foles.
As bad as it sounds, there seems to be a ton of uncertainty surrounding both quarterbacks at the moment when looking at how the last month or so has played out, although knowing Pederson, Philadelphia will be ready to go for Atlanta.
Over the last couple of months, Eagles fans seemed to have a clear idea that Pederson’s decision would most likely come down to the final week when looking at the time table for Wentz during his recovery process. With an injury like a torn ACL, the team knew the last thing they could afford to do was rush their beloved quarterback too soon if he wasn’t ready, so the Eagles deserve credit for the approach they’ve taken over the last few months.
Now that it’s finally the last week of preseason, some Philadelphia fans aren’t even sure of which quarterback they would prefer under center when taking numerous factors into consideration. But if the Eagles truly want to have a legitimate shot at taking down the Falcons on opening night, Pederson may be better off going with Foles as his quarterback instead of Wentz, and here are five reasons why this seems like the best decision.
