2018 NFL Power Rankings: Eagles no longer on top after Week 2 of preseason

12. Kansas City Chiefs
Moving on from Alex Smith sooner than expected this offseason was a surprising move by the Kansas City Chiefs since the veteran still seems to have a few good years left in him at quarterback. But if all goes according to plan for Patrick Mahomes II during his first full year as the starter, the Chiefs will feel a lot better about their decision to replace Smith.
Football fans that watched Kansas City take down the Atlanta Falcons this past weekend may have noticed the arm strength by Mahomes, which is just one of many reasons to be excited about the youngster under center. Clearly, the Chiefs never would have made the decision they did if Mahomes didn’t look like he was ready, and to help make the transition easier, at least the offense is loaded with talent for him to work with.
From Kareem Hunt at running back to weapons like Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce in the passing game, Mahomes shouldn’t have any trouble putting up big numbers in 2018. Some quarterbacks need a little time to develop, but Mahomes is no ordinary quarterback, and there’s a reason why Kansas City was so high on him during the draft in 2017.
