32. New York Jets

Since the end of April when they landed Sam Darnold in the draft, one of the biggest questions surrounding the New York Jets was whether the rookie quarterback would end up being the starter come Week 1. As much as the Jets would be tempted to go with Darnold in 2018, the team was also considering the possibility of using Josh McCown or Teddy Bridgewater since their veteran experience could put them in better position to win more games this season.

Then again, it would be easier to make a case for McCown or Bridgewater if New York was viewed as a team expected to make a serious run at the playoffs in the AFC, but since there’s a good chance that may not happen, the team has nothing to lose rolling with Darnold right away. And based off Darnold’s play so far in the preseason, there seems to be a good chance of this becoming more of a reality for the Jets.

Darnold’s performance against the Washington Redskins (8 of 11 for 62 yards with an interception) was far from impressive, but at least he’s been gaining the necessary experience in the preseason. The sooner New York makes them the starter, the quicker Darnold develops into the potential quarterback they’ve spent years looking for, so it will be interesting to see how the next few weeks go before having to name a starter.
