Philadelphia Eagles see Carson Wentz take another step closer to starting Week 1
By Dan Parzych
The Philadelphia Eagles continue to receive good news over Carson Wentz potential return for Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Before the Philadelphia Eagles know it, the first official game of the 2018 season against the Atlanta Falcons will finally be here, as the defending Super Bowl champions will begin their journey to trying to repeat.
Winning the Super Bowl is one thing, but repeating as champions will be an even more difficult challenge for the Eagles since they will be playing with targets on their backs as the top team to beat.
Not to mention, Philadelphia has plenty of questions still in need of answering when it comes to players getting healthy before that meeting against the Falcons, including Carson Wentz at quarterback.
Losing Wentz to a torn ACL last December was a devastating blow last season since there’s a good chance he would have gone on to win MVP honors. But on a positive note, at least Wentz has been doing everything in his power during the recovery process to put himself in position to be ready for Week 1.
So far, Philadelphia has been taking the proper approach with their beloved quarterback to make sure they don’t rush him back too fast if he’s not ready to avoid any sort of setback. And when seeing how Wentz has finally been cleared to participate in 11-on-11 team work during practice, it makes Eagles fans even more hopeful that he will be ready to go for Week 1.
Making the decision to rest Wentz for the remainder of the preseason shouldn’t come as a surprise since, as mentioned before, the last thing Philadelphia can afford is seeing him suffer a setback if he’s not ready to be out there.
Playing it safe may seem frustrating to some since it would be a shame to see Wentz look rusty if he does end up playing in Week 1, but also it’s the right move by the Eagles.
At the end of the day, whatever it takes for Wentz to be healthy enough to play opening night, that’s what matters the most.
With the news surrounding Wentz returning to full practice on Sunday, Philadelphia continues to see their quarterback inch closer to making sure he’ll be ready for opening night against the Falcons, which is exactly what Eagles fans want to hear.
