5. Cornerbacks looked rusty

To say Philadelphia’s cornerbacks looked rusty for the most part against Pittsburgh would be a major understatement when looking at how much they struggled throughout the game, especially on jump balls during free plays. In fact, the first score of the game was a result of the Eagles jumping offsides and Landry Jones taking full advantage of the situation by throwing it deep to JuJu Smith-Schuster, who took the catch 71 yards to the house for the touchdown.

Sadly, this wasn’t the only time during the game a Philadelphia cornerback failed to make a big play, as the unit clearly has a lot to work on before the team’s next game against the New England Patriots. But at least with this being the preseason, the Eagles can use the excuse of this being the first game, and still have plenty of time to turn things around before the start of the regular season in September.

Stellar play on defense was one of the major reasons behind Philadelphia’s epic Super Bowl run last season, but their cornerbacks will need to step up moving forward if they’re going to have any chance at repeating since the pressure is already at an all-time high for the champions.
