2018 NFL Power Rankings: Philadelphia Eagles begin preseason on top

23. Washington Redskins
Give the Washington Redskins some credit for addressing the Kirk Cousins situation early on in the offseason since they seemed to have a pretty good idea he would end up elsewhere, which is why they pulled the trigger to land Alex Smith. One can make the argument that Washington should have considered a quarterback in the first round to build for the future, but since Smith appears to have plenty of great football left in him, this seems like a wise choice.
Even though Smith hates the label of being one of the league’s top game managers, the analysts wouldn’t make the comments if they weren’t true. The Redskins may not have the same weapons Smith had to work with during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs, but the veteran has an opportunity to help some of the younger receivers elevate their game to a whole new level.
Also, Smith’s guidance will hopefully help Derrius Guice remain focused on football after the former LSU star slipped in the draft this year as a result of maturity issues along with a few other factors. But talent wise, Guice was one of the top running backs from this year’s class for a reason, and the rookie could end up being a second-round steal for the Redskins.
